Fruit development of two high oleic safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) cultivars Phyton
Franchini,MC; Flemmer,AC; Lindström,LI; David,MA; Fernandez,PA.
The purpose of this study was to describe fruit development in two high oleic safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) cultivars during four growing seasons. Pericarp histogenesis, and dynamics of pericarp and seed dry weight and fruit water content were studied. The dynamics of the pericarp and seed growth was similar between cultivars and years. The pericarp completed its growth before the seed. Pericarp potential size was already set at anthesis as no cell division was observed at this time. Maximum pericarp dry weight was achieved 8 days after anthesis, when cell wall lignification concluded. At this time, twinned prismatic simetric crystals had decreased in number and size respect to those observed at anthesis. Physiological maturity (maximum seed dry...

Maturation of Physalis peruviana L. seeds according to flowering and age of the fruit Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Diniz,Fábio Oliveira; Novembre,Ana Dionisia da Luz Coelho.
ABSTRACT It is important to understand the seed maturation process to determine the time point at which the seeds achieve optimum quality and the ideal time for harvest. This study aimed to study the maturation of Physalis peruviana L. seeds, based on flowering time and age of the fruit. This study was conducted from March to October of 2016 and 2017, in the city of Piracicaba, São Paulo. The plants were cultivated in four blocks using four stems, with spacing of 1.0 m between the plants and of 2.5 m between the rows. As experimental treatments, two flowering time points were defined: 55 and 105 days after transplanting (DAT); in each period, the flowers were marked at the anthesis and the respective fruits and seeds were evaluated at 45, 60, 75, and 90...

Morpho-anatomical, physiological and biochemical changes in rubber tree seeds Anais da ABC (AABC)
SOUZA,GENAINA A. DE; DIAS,DENISE C.F.S.; PIMENTA,THALINE M.; CARDOSO,AMANDA Á.; PIRES,RAQUEL M.O.; ALVARENGA,ANTÔNIO P.; PÍCOLI,EDGARD A.T..
ABSTRACT The physical, physiological and biochemical changes during the development until the dispersal of rubber tree seeds were evaluated with the purpose of estimating the point at physiological maturity. A total of 30 plants were selected at different points in a commercial planting area and had their flowers marked during the anthesis and every 15 days after marking. Fruits and seeds were collected for analysis of moisture content, dry matter, diameter and length. Details of the anatomy ultra-structure of the seeds were evaluated. The seed emergence, emergency speed index, heat resistant proteins and oxidative stress enzymes were examined. It was observed that fruits reached maximum size at 120 days after anthesis and seeds at 150 days. The seeds...

Morphophysiological characteristics of guanandi fruit and seeds during ripening and harvesting time PAB
Silva,Rosemeire Carvalho da; Vieira,Elisa Serra Negra; Panobianco,Maristela.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to determine the relationship of the morphological and physiological characteristics of guanandi (Calophyllum brasiliense) fruit and seeds with ripening and harvesting time. The reproductive cycle of a native plant population, located in the coast of the state of Paraná, Brazil, was monitored from anthesis until fruit dispersion, during three years. Monthly harvests were performed, and the morphological and physical aspects (color, size, dry mass, and moisture content) of fruit and embryos were evaluated, as well as the physiological ones (germination and vigor) of seeds. The ripening process of guanandi seeds occurred between 200 and 240 days after anthesis (DAA), with anthesis peak in February and fruit dispersion...

Potassium permanganate effects on the quality and post-harvest conservation of sapodilla ( Manilkara zapota (L.) P.Royen) fruits under modified atmosphere Acta Agron. (Palmira)
de Souza Freitas,Wallace Edelky; Bezerra Almeida,Maria Lucilania; Dantas de Morais,Patrícia Lígia; da Curnha Moura,Angélica Kaynne; Sales Júnior,Rui.
Abstract Sapodilla (Manilkara zapota (L.) P. Royen) is a climacteric fruit, very perishable, with high metabolic activity, rapid ripening and reduced storage time at room temperature, thus making difficult its commercialization. However, this research aimed to evaluate the effect of potassium permanganate (KMnO4) on the quality and post-harvest conservation of sapodilla fruit under modified atmosphere at room temperature. The sapodilla fruits were harvested when they reached physiological maturity and then accommodated in Styrofoam trays with PVC film coating. Within each package, KMnO4 were placed at different concentrations (0, 0.250, 0.375, and 0.500 g of KMnO4 per kg of fruit, respectively), impregnated in vermiculite. In addition, were kept in storage...

Time of harvest and storability of Crotalaria juncea L. seeds Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Araújo,Alisson Vinicius de; Araújo,Eduardo Fontes; Amaro,Hugo Tiago Ribeiro; Santos,Ricardo Henrique Silva; Cecon,Paulo Roberto.
ABSTRACT Although used as green manure, one of the challenges the cultivation of Crotalaria juncea is the low availability of quality seeds in the market. The harvest at the right time contributes to the achievement of better quality seeds. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the storability and characterize the physical and physiological changes of the seeds harvested at different times. The statistical design was completely randomized with three replications. Treatments consisted of four harvest seasons and two storage periods (0 to 8 months). The samples were collected when the plants reached 40, 60, 80 and 100% of dried pods. The following characteristics were evaluated: time for drying, moisture content, dry matter accumulation, physical...

Study of sunn hemp seed development and maturation was studied at the Department of Plant Science, Faculty of Natural Resources, Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai campus, Hat Yai, Songkhla, during March-June, 2008. The blooming flowers were tagged to indicate the date of flowering. Pods at 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34, 37, 40, 43 and 46 days after flowering were harvested to investigate pod color, seed color and seed quality. The results showed that the sunn hemp had 6 developmental stages of pod color which were green, yellow-green, light grey-green, dark greygreen, grey-brown and grey-brown-black at 10-16, 19-28, 31, 34, 37-40 and 43-46 days after flowering, respectively. The sunn hemp seeds were capable of germination at approximately 25 days...
